SAFE Quick Facts
The SAFE process is covered by U.S. patent number 8,973,491 and one or more pending patent application.
The SAFE system is appropriate for food scrap generators of all types.
SAFE is an excellent choice for residential and commercial food scrap generators. It is also a great choice for event venues, schools, hospitals, and other institutions.
SAFE collection technology is quickly expanding and facilitates the use of currently operating vehicle fleets.

The SAFE pre-processing expels non-foods such as paper and plastics, and converts raw food scraps into a mash. Depending on source contamination, contaminants can either be sent to a composting facility or landfilled.

The SAFE process creates 3 commodities:
A dry feed product that conforms to USDA guidelines for non-ruminant animal feed.
Reclaimed water—200 gallons of fresh water are captured per ton of mash processed.
Fat, oil and grease (FOG)—25 gallons of clean FOG are captured per ton of mash processed.

SAFE dry feed is created using patented technology that removes or otherwise obliterates pathogens and bacteria as well as contaminates like glass, metal and plastic.
The SAFE production process creates a dry feed product that is commercially viable. SAFE dry feed can be marketed as the following:
Agricutural Feed for non-ruminant animals including hogs, chickens, fish, and more-- Approximate value $500/ton.
High Protein Pet Treats-- Approximate value $5-$20/lb.
Full Diet Dog Food-- Approximate value $2/lb.
The SAFE system is modular and capable of processing anywhere from a few tons to several hundred tons per day.
The SAFE pre-processing facility (considered a SAFE “spoke”) located at Mission Trail Waste Systems in Santa Clara, California, can process 99 tons of material per day. It exists entirely on trailers situated on approximately 5,000 square feet of land.
The nearby production facility (or SAFE “hub”) at Garden City Sanitation can process 50 tons per day and has a footprint of 10,000 square feet.
